🛴 Scootering Program (Kids on Wheels)
At Round 7, we believe every child deserves the opportunity to experience the freedom and joy of balancing in a scooter. Our program is designed specifically for children on the autism spectrum and kids of all abilities, including those who struggle with balance, coordination, anxiety, or phobias. Our training using structured teaching methods, visual cues, and step-by-step skill development.
From our experience scootering is the most sensory friendly activity on wheels. Scootering will boost a spectrum athelete confidence to the roof. Scootering also serves as a prerequisite skill for more advanced programs such as skateboarding and our future electric scootering program.
We have found the 2-wheel scooter to be a jack of all trades cross training platform within our Kids on Wheels programs. Scootering is one of the most versatile tools for developing foundational movement skills and is highly recommended as a supplement to bike riding training.
In most cases, children who complete our scootering program show significant improvement in bike handlebar control, steering precision, and braking skills, demonstrating how motor skills can successfully transfer between both platforms.
Our program follows a progressive learning model that helps riders safely develop the physical and cognitive skills required for independent riding.
Scootering Program Roadmap
| Stage | Estimate Training Hours | Outcome |
| Phase 1 – Preparation | 3-5hrs | Child understands scooter controls and safety |
| Phase 2 – Balance & Riding | 5-8hrs | Proper riding posture and steering, and propelling |
Estimated Scootering Program Training Duration and cost by Support Level
Progress is individualized. Some participants may require additional sessions depending on comfort, confidence, and motor development.
| ASD Support Level | Typical Duration | Estimated Hours | Estimated Cost $60/hr |
|---|---|---|---|
| Level 1 (Low Support) | 4 days | 4 hrs | $240 |
| Level 2 (Moderate Support) | 4 to 6 days | 4-6 hrs | $240-360 |
| Level 3 (High Support) | 5 to 8 days | 6-8 hrs | $300-$500 |

– Why Scootering Works
Scooters offer several unique advantages:
- Improves balance and bilateral coordination
- Develops steering and handlebar control
- Strengthens braking awareness and reaction time
- Builds confidence before transitioning to bikes or skateboards
- Highly portable and easy to use in most environments
- Excellent for children with sensory needs who benefit from repetitive motion and movement input
Because scooters are lightweight and easy to transport, they are one of the most deployable training tools, making them ideal for practice at parks, sidewalks, and community spaces.
– Why Start the Scootering Program
Scootering is also one of our most budget-friendly entry programs,
Many children benefit from learning to ride a scooter before transitioning to:
- Skateboarding
- Rollerblading
- Electric Scootering (future program)
– Are there any requirements for Scootering Program?
- 4 years and above
- Doctors physical checkup to include physical activity in summer (700am to 11am or 4pm to 8pm)
- Walking without support. We recommend parents to walk with Kids for conditioning and outdoor exposure.
- Parents bring patients and positive encouragement.
– What gear do the kid need for the Scootering Program?
Our Recommendation
At Round 7, we strongly recommend scootering as either:
- A supplement program to improve bike skills
- A confidence builder for children needing gradual progression
Scootering often becomes the bridge skill that helps children successfully transition into other wheeled recreational activities.
